Unbelievable! Li Ion abuse and sustainability

I've got one of those spot welders and it is surprisingly good. The copper rods are shrink wrapped so you're not touching anything. You do need to be careful with how you set it though, one of the first times I used it I managed to vaporise a track off a PCB...

    Photo storage and backup

I have a Synology nas which has a mobile app for backing up photos. It syncs with my computer so any photos I store are backed up. Its useful when I'm on holiday as I can download the photos onto my phone and they get backed up straight away. I do use Google photos for general photo browsing...

    Skyhook pitch

The skyhook isn't the only route up there though, you can traverse above the great oxbow to get there.

Choice of descender (Split from "Falling on Cows Tails")

Interestingly, I teach novices on racks and still use one myself. While this is initially riskier, I do feel that it is better at teaching good technique and making sure that they learn to never let go of the dead end of the rope. We mitigate the risk by doing 1 to 1 teaching until they're...

    TG6 Lens Cover

Can confirm, as when I sent mine in for repair it took four months before they eventually acknowledged they had lost it!

    Protecting Flashguns

If you want a waterproof option, Inglesport did do a version of this box that was clear and fitted a yongnuo in quite nicely with some carry mat foam. Though it appears that the clear option isn't currently available...

    Caving Games

My understanding is everyone makes hats out of newspaper, then sets fire to them. First one to take their hat off loses/last wins.

Most definitely, there's also the drain opposite the Croydon hut that I'd completely forgot about!

    Caving Games

Hi all, I'm looking at writing a book on caving games and have garnered a good list of games (see below), but am interested to know what I'm missing! Also keen for any information on how the games originated (which I'm missing for all of them), regional variations, or any other interesting...

    Hull Pot

Didn't see any Chinese balloons, but there are a number of bits of climbing tat half way up some of the routes that could do with removing if anyone gets the chance. They were just a bit to far away from our line to get to, especially as I neglected to pack rope protectors!

    Hull Pot

I think the sheets of plastic were a vain attempt to reduce the amount of water going in to the lower section of the cave, but given that with no water going past them the bottom of the cave was still sumped, they've been removed, as has a load of rubbish from Hull Pot. I'll attempt to see if I...

    Hull Pot

Had a fun short trip down Hunt pot today, but went up to have a look at Hull pot just before as we're planning on having a look down it and high Hull pot tomorrow. While looking at the stream feeding Hull pot, I noticed some plastic attempting to block some of the sinks in the stream way. Given...

Calling cave rescue via 999 ?

As Paul said, when calling 999 you first get through to the BT call handler who will ask which service you want, fire, police, etc. At this point specify the region, ie North Yorkshire police. That should stop the difficulties of having to get an incident moved between forces.

Caving Hacks, or things you learn with age?

Clipping your cows tail into your chest jammer makes it variable length, handy for hanging traverses. Shin pads are cheap and make crawling so much more pleasant!

    Fixed ropes in Notts Pot

Had an entertaining trip down there today, which was a lot wetter than I have seen before. Most of the rigging kept us nicely out of the water, but the pitch into four ways chamber had been submerged by the time we got to it on the way out. As a result I ended up rigging the fixed rope that was...
