    CAVE RESEARCH GROUP NEWSLETTERS

I have spare copies of 53/54,58-61,68-83,85-119,121-126,128-134. Heavy so postage would probably be over £6 for all of them but otherwise free

    CDG newsletters going spare

I posted this on the Divers' section too but it hasn't appeared. Is that something I did(n't) do or some sort of UK Caving monitoring system? Should it be on the Diver's section rather than this general one anyway?

    Heaning Wood Bone Cave

You may have seen in the North of England press that Heaning Wood Bone Cave has yielded 11,000 year old human remains, the oldest discovered so far in the North of England. As the location of the cave is in the public domain, the landowner (it’s in an overgrown and unused part of her garden) is...

The Scoska Skeleton - What else is known?

You are right! BP not AD. My not very scientific article from the time is in Northern Boggarts Newsletter 224 page 45

    SLIDE SCANNERS

Does anyone have advice on slide scanners, what to buy and cost, to get very good digital copies. I've only ever used a flatbed with provision for slides and the result was mixed. A very good slide might copy well but anything short of near perfection lost a lot of its quality

    HEANING WOOD BONE CAVE

Thanks for responses so far. I have been in touch with Martin Stables who has done a lot of work until recently on the cave under the supervision of UCLAN Department of Archaeology. The only thing that remains a mystery is the work of Pete Redshaw in the 70s. I now know that it was Pete who...

    HEANING WOOD BONE CAVE

I am seeking information on Heaning Wood Bone Cave.  Between the time of Eric Holland?s work in the1960s and the publication of Northern Caves in 1990 a top entrance was excavated which gave access to the original bone chamber but we don?t know who did that.  In the 1990 edition of Northern...

Has anybody found my glasses (in a dark green glasses case) which I suspect I left by the wall near the cattle grid where we park for Notts II

    ILLUSION

Can anyone tell me how the Illusion Pot entrance sump behaves and what to watch out for/consider in advance of a trip?  Last time we were down there - 6 July 2011 to be precise - it was dry conditions and there was little sign that the sump ever came up at all.  20 years or so ago I remember...

CNCC RIGGING GUIDE VOLUME 2: SHUTTLEWORTH POT

Vol 2 is an excellent publication indeed but I have one observation about Shuttleworth Pot.  The Main Shaft rope length has been amended to 60 metres compared with 50 metres in the CNCC publication: Shuttleworth Pot into Witches II.  However the "Mininum equipment required" gives a different...

    WHITEWELL POT

There are a number of rarely or never entered places in Whitewell Pot:     * A series of drops just inside the entrance descending to about 50 feet, described as the Upper Series on the 1970  LUPC survey. People other than ourselves have evidently been down there.     * The window between the...
