Bad air / pollution / bad bolts / etc

Image of collapse in owl bottom hole. Looks as though there are smaller bits of rock that have fallen behind the large one as well. Can confirm lots of the scaf is very rusty and shoring needs replacing too. Honestly the whole section could do with some love. If anyone already has plans in...

    Tigguocobauc vol 2

I'm afraid the PDF for the entire newsletter is too big but if you pm me your email I'll happily send it across. I may also be in the BCA library as well but don't quote me on that one. The above image refers to the outcome from the link that was sent:)

    Tigguocobauc vol 2

Very interesting, thank you! Well the original newsletter mentions the outcome of the applications to become part of the au and we are now a sports club rather than a society so alls well there. I'll link the first edition soon.

    Tigguocobauc vol 2

It's not currently online - there's only one and a half copies known to exist but I do have photos of it all. If you give me a bit I can put it in pdf form and put it here too

Hopefully we'll break the tradition next year! Haha. Glad you enjoyed the read tho, just thought it would be interesting to put together something to show some of what we're up to.

    Rigging midnight traverses

I believe the bolts were installed to aid in putting in the brigadier's ladder, more so than for protection when just visiting the cave. From memory they're quite far apart so would be a very long run out for the first person - maybe get someone over 6ft haha. Or you could skip the traverses by...

    Cave camping kit list

I quite like taking bin bags to put my feet into and then into wellies for if I need to get up at some point once I'm changed (assuming wellies are wet), or even to just protect my socks from dirt for similar reasons. I believe you've also forgotten a spoon/something to eat with.

    NCHECC antics at Alum Pot

It was described by someone as 'the ladder to hell' as the bottom of it couldn't be seen from the bridge. Good fun though.

    NCHECC antics at Alum Pot

Hey everyone, a friend suggested I share this here as a sort of 'this is what I've been up to' kind of post. Last weekend was NCHECC and I had a great time seeing friends and getting up to all the other fun and mischief that happens when lots of cavers get together... As well as this though, it...

    Suspension Trauma

EDIT: After chatting to others on my course, I realise I have incorrectly added the section about CO2 rich blood, this is my mistake and not what the instructor said. Their view was instead that the increase in volume of blood returning back to the core may cause further issues. Some sound advice

    Suspension Trauma

The instructor was very good and had quite a lot of experience so I won't slate them - as I mentioned this wasn't part of the actual course and was more of a question I had. Perhaps they answered more in the vein of a general serious crush injury than suspension trauma and I misinterpreted...

    Suspension Trauma

I attended a wilderness first aid course over the weekend and had a great time and learned a lot. Admittedly, the course was not covering suspension trauma so this advice should be taken with a pinch of salt but the topic was brought up. The instructor mentioned a case regarding the army and a...

Yep, all AA battery powered, not modified in the slightest. Most of them even come with the original spare bulb as well.
