  • Help us work out the future of the Inglesport Café

We've been trading since 1977 and next year will be our 50th anniversary.

The café has been part of that for a long time, running quietly in the background for years, and we don't think it always gets the credit it deserves as a genuine community hub. But we need to be straight with you: the café is under real pressure, and we’re not sure of the best path forward.....

04-05-2025 Mossdale caverns - Anniversary chamber

Noticed similar during a visit in low water many years ago. At the time didn’t give it much thought assuming it joined the swims prior to boulder hall. Later down the line i couldn’t help feeling there is a lot more to this area of the cave than meets the eye and possibly more to be discovered there. In the past ive been too quick to write things off and assume others have already investigated, or that the only discoveries to make are at the terminus. Sure i’ve said in the past, the presence of far more in that region can be felt.
Maybe I'll have another look next time im in and it is low.

I happen to have a copy of RRPC10 here on the other side of the planet. Hope I'm not infringing any copyright, but here's the bit about the follow-up trip in two phone pictures.

Thirty years on and the potential described at the end of that article is still to be realized. Did I read somewhere that studies had suggested that much of the passage in the Great Scar limestone is likely to be flooded? Obviously, there ought to be plenty of vertical stuff to get down to that level.

I haven't seen that suggestion. Obviously the bottom reaches would be, but the further in the Black Keld sump goes, the steeper the gradient would be from mossdale. But then 150m/5000m (if those are correct) is only an average gradient of 1.7 degrees...
