If you are intending to visit Swildon?s Hole this coming Saturday please note that the cave might be quite busy as 4th August 2012 is the 50th Anniversary of the Short Round Trip. The event will start with a commemorative photo on Priddy Green at 11.00am, followed by a celebratory trip. The connection point, Birthday Squeeze was dug open on this date and is hoped that parties will undertake the trip from both the Mud Sump and the Sump I direction (as on the original trip). The Twenty will be rigged for all of Saturday and the Troubles will be bailed on Friday night.

It will probably be organised chaos - but it should be good fun and anyone is welcome to join us.

All being well, Dave Turner will be doing this trip - he was also on the very first trip 50 years ago!

For anyone who has ordered a commemorative T shirt. Rich will be at the MCG and I will be at the Wessex at 9.30am and then on Priddy Green from 10.30am.

47 people around the Short Round Trip today, including Dave Turner - it would be good to make 50 for the 50th -  Twenty is rigged and everything is bailed, but you need to do the trip before midnight!    ;)

Sorry, Derbyshire to Priddy, then the short round in less than 5 hours, wish I could. :( I sincerely hope you can do it!  (y) well done to all the organisers, and especially Dave

Well done to Dave! He is 70 on Monday.

I hope that I am as fit as Dave is when I am 70 - he set a cracking pace to Sump I and it was the first time that he had done the SRT in reverse. We were only underground for 3 hours and this included all the socialising with the people coming towards us from the normal direction.

Just been reading on BBC about flooding in Failand. Guess the Troubles won't stay open for long.

We were extremely lucky with the weather for the photo yesterday. There have been some extremely heavy showers on Mendip today and I think that Charterhouse might also still be a trifle damp!

Great video! Dave digs at Templeton with us - he is like a hyperactive child. He is amazing!

Agree. The video was great. Hope I can last that long and be as active as him. I wish we could have 'Like' buttons on here like Facebook. Then I would have liked this post, lol!  :)

A great video, it really fired me up.

Alas, I was unable to attend on the day due to being stuck in the Olympic Stadium watching sport. However, as compensation for missing such a significant event, today I decided to undertake a virtual round trip within the confines of our lounge, and based on my memory of the last time I did it. Probably 1990 or thereabouts. I donned my Round Trip Anniversary "T" shirt (thanks Ali) and set off at a blistering pace. Scurried down the twenty, though PR & The Troubles like a rat up a drainpipe, through the wet bit and I was out in under half an hour! Ha! Try & top that, speedfreaks!!

Tony - as you were so fast, I think that you should now do it again in reverse!

Many thanks to so many people for attending the event and I think that you all made Dave's day.

On a more mundane note. The Twenty was rigged for the event and included a pulley hung from a kararbiner. Some people were using this krab for an Italian Hitch, which was fine except that this had disappeared by the time John Cooper went down to remove the tackle on Sunday. I guess that this has been taken by accident, but the owner would really like it back. If anyone has any info as to its whereabouts please sent me or John a pm.

Can you carry back 2 from yesterday - was too busy caving elsewhere over the weekend to make the 50th on the day itself, so did it yesterday to make up for it.

49 trips logged on Saturday, so we just missed  the magic 50 by a mere 1. A pity, but at least 5 people completed the trip on Sunday and I don't know if anyone did it on Friday night? If we cheat a little and total everything it makes a very respectable 50 + SRT's for the Anniversary weekend - pretty good going.
Out of interest it is the 30th birthday of the Watergate Connection on 18th September - but with the weather this summer, there is little chance that the Link Pool sump will open this year. We will just have to celebrate it in the pub instead.

Tony - that sounds fun - can we all come and try your Short Round Trip variant please?  ;)
