Badlad and Ian - Scales Moor.

I hope you all had a fab Easter - my brother, Ian joined us for a weekend of cycling (him), riding (me), digging (Tim) and walking (all of us).

One walk was up Whernside from Ribblehead (blimey, so many walkers and fell runners!) and back to our house via the ridge (left the masses behind) and Scales Moor. Lovely.

Once off the main Three Peaks path and on the ridge we stopped for a brew and some cheese....and a caver walked past, heading towards Whernside. We had to ask and say hello....turns out he had been down Heron and was walking back to his car at Ribblehead, via Whernside - good effort!

I was telling some friends about this extra effort trip (because for those that don't know Heron, you can park in Kingsdale and be much closer to the cave) and they had come across something similar that weekend too...wish I could remember the details.

So my question is - what caving trips have you done then walked/run/cycled etc back the long way round just for the joy (or getting lost!) of it?? :)

Two of us did nettle pot on the bus from Sheffield back in student times. Had to walk from walkley to hunters bar with all the kit then from Castletown to nettle . We managed to hitch back from nettle to Sheffield but only to the outskirts and had a long walk back home. I recall being particularly tired but satisfied! I

I went for a fun dive in the Rowten sumps getting the train to Ribblehead and the train home from Hellifield. That was a good day.
Too fat for that now, I need a break on three flights of stairs.

Not caving, but practicing for caving, during the first (and strictest) lockdown, I got a little extra exercise to and from my local quarry for some diving.

To avoid drawing attention, I'd drive my cylinders up and hide the bag in some nearby woods, then drive home and cycle back in my wetsuit (hidden under regular clothes.

I'd then hide the bike in the aforementioned wood while I went diving, before cycling back down the hill with the full bag of kit.

I've never bothered walking or cycling further than I have to though!
