I reckon it's well worth including some of the new stuff from recent years in the North York Moors.

Only done doolin to fisher street but it was a corker.
Indeed - excellent through trip, and not far to the pub once you pop out of the hole in the field

It was preceded by Potholing beneath the Northern Pennines and, even before then Underground Adventure (not forgetting its more recent reprint). Strange how our other much loved caving areas don't seem to have inspired much in the way of books in this genre. Perhaps we should consider ourselvges lucky in the Dales.

But I think this topic is more about a national approach. The problem is, what do you leave out!

I also wrote a chapter - on Craig a Ffynnon. I wonder what happened to it. It wopuld be nice if the book were to be published some time!

Of course since the originlal list was compiled there have been some significant discoveres - it must be more than 30 years since I wrote my bit. I guess no such volume would be complete without the Penyghent Pot Living Dead extensions...

I was asked to write up the Round Trip in Swildons and it went through multiple drafts then the whole project seemed to fade away. I still have a draft if anybody is really interested!

I would be happy to add it to the other three, if you like, although it may be better off in a Mendip-biased website, rather than a Dales one.

Be good if all pre existing chapters could be gathered together, and new ones added as they are written.
If it is going to be "Classis Caves" that implies to my mind not hard or extreme trips, but high quality trips that a novice could hope to aspire to in their first months of exploring. Not the whole set, but ones that available at the time?
I would also suggest it should include mined and part mined locations as well, eg Knotlow, Oxlow, Nenthead, Cwmorthin, Box etc

I think care is needed here; from memory at least some payment may have been made for some of the work of writing the available articles (my memory is a bit hazy) so it's possible that the rights to the intellectual property are owned by someone. If anyone is serious about this, proceed with caution.
(Just saying . . . )

It's getting slightly confusing between those that people are recommending (that they either would or wouldn't include)!

Yes. That's the idea. Of course, what a novice might aspire to quickly these days would be different to what they'd aspire to when Classic Rock was written.

Still, easyish caves. Enjoyable, interesting and with scenic qualities (perhaps as much in the approach walk) and/or historic significance rather than those where "testpiece" might feature too highly in their appeal.
