A decade later (!): Goatchurch The Movie

Damn. So I invested some of my meagre pension in a DVD of this, thinking it was genuine, and now you tell me it was a horrible deception and fake! Shame on you!

I'm convinced Goatchurch was just like the video, the last time I went down, but my memory might be a bit shaky...

Hello, New to all this. My dad told me stories when i was young about caving at goatchurch, him and his brother, my uncle, had a motorcycle helmet and a builders helmet and went years ago.

I just wondered if i can go with a couple of friends, in appropriate gear, and go caving at goatchurch? Or do i need to book with a proper company? Not sure how it all works these days.

Cheers
To go caving, you need a helmet, a light, something to tell the time, warm clothing and a callout (someone who knows where you have gone, exactly when you should be back by i.e. your 'callout time', and instructions to call 999 for the police and then cave rescue should you not reappear).
Some caves require more gear. Goatchurch does not (although decent footwear and kneepads are useful...)
Some caves have more access restrictions, or require insurance/a caving membership of some kind. Again, Goatchurch does not.

From memory from my skinnier youth, the Lobster Pot is more awkward than tight due to not being able to bend your knees to get to footholds, but would agree not advisable as a solo trip. I would say Hellish Tight and Bloody Tight in Goatchurch are as much of a challenge.

Hellish is tighter than other two, along with the zigzags, but the slot in middle of goatchurch boulder chamber, down to water chamber, is smaller still (but then they can all be bypassed).
