And it's quite adjacent the Victoria Tunnel (which is open for tours and was about 2.5 miles long acting as a coal haulage route from the Town Moor), both were converted to act as air raid shelters during WWII. Seems that it could give a fine excursion with a bit of underground wandering and a pint.
I'm not sure if it's still accessible (I last went for a that exploration in the 1990's) but you could wander up the culverted bit of the Ouseburn just to the north.
