Aberystwyth Caving Club 60th anniversary!

Calling all Aberystwyth Caving Club alumni! It’s a very exciting year, we are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the club! To commemorate the amazing times we’ve all had in the club we are inviting you to come to the SWCC (South Wales Caving Club) for the weekend 23rd-25th January 2026. The weekend will consist of caving (if you want) and getting to know all our members past and present. We would love to see you there! If you’re in contact with any other past members please let them know. We can’t wait to see everyone and share stories of the club!

Hi everyone! Hope you’re all looking forward to the 60th anniversary celebrations. Here are some further details on it. We are inviting all Aberystwyth alumni and current members to the SWCC (South Wales caving club) on the weekend 23rd-25th of January. We have booked the whole hut out so we encourage everyone to come stay. Hut fees can be paid when you get there (cost of hut fees can be found on the SWCC website). We will also be cooking an evening meal on Saturday that will be a small cost to join. This will be paid on the weekend also.

The weekend will be about getting to know everyone and a bit of caving if you want. We will be running some trips for varying abilities over the weekend. If you don’t have any caving kit but would like to cave on the weekend we will be bringing a variety of kit for people to use.

If you are coming to the weekend please RSVP on Facebook in the Aberystwyth Caving Club group. If you know anyone who isn’t on Facebook but they want to come please get them to contact us on this email: cavingclub@aber.ac.uk

If you have any questions please put it on this thread, message me or contact the email

We have booked the whole hut out so we encourage everyone to come stay.
Strictly speaking (for the benefit of any SWCC members) only the 40 available guest bunks have been booked out, leaving 44 remaining bunks for members. Not even SCHECC books the whole of SWCC out (albeit there are special arrangements for that, with only 20 bunks remaining for members).
Hope it all goes well :)

Hi guys! As you’ll have heard, this year is the 60th anniversary of ACC and to celebrate we will be having our weekend away at the SWCC in January at which we hope to see as many of you as possible. Please see the last post for more information on this.
Not only this but on the 21st of March to continue the celebrations- we’d like to invite you all to come watch and present talks should you wish! These talks will be about 15-20 minutes each and can be about anything to do with your time in the club, or caving related adventures you have had since! The talks will take place in Aberystwyth. If you would like to share your experiences, pop us a message and we’ll keep in touch. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi, thank you for clarifying this. Yes, what I meant was that we have booked out all the 40 available guest bunk spaces.

Hi everyone,

Thank you to everyone who came to the 60th reunion weekend, hope you all enjoyed!

If you didn’t manage to get there or are still feeling like celebrating the club, come to our 60th anniversary talks! The talks are planned for the 21st of March in Aberystwyth. This will be taking place from 16.00-18.00 in Aberystwyth student union main room. We will be hearing about people’s stories from their club days as well as any caving adventures undertaken since. If you’d like to give a talk please leave a comment below or contact us on email: cavingclub@aber.ac.uk or on the Facebook.

After the talks finish we are booking a meal out which everyone is welcome to join. We will go straight from the talks into town for it. Please let us know if you’re joining so we have an idea of numbers.

The next day Sunday 22nd March starting at 7.00 we are holding a fundraising event with the Aberystwyth harriers in which we will collectively be going up and down Penglais hill for the height of Everest. This is to raise money for South and Mid Wales Cave Rescue. If you’re around we’d appreciate any help. Even if you only do it once at any time in the day that would really help us hit the target!

Please share this with people you know from the club! We look forward to seeing everyone!
