I was wondering if i could test the memories of some of the folks who are familiar with Via Gellia. As i have been in most there are still a couple that i have not looked for or found and wondered if anybody could fill in the gaps...............................

SLINTER MINE - i have been in the general area of this site and apart from a small gated entrance at the top of the slope, a couple of infilled adits and plenty of shafts i have never found any main adits. There is an adit near Slinter Tor , high up on the woodland footpath but that is gated.
MERRY TOM LOWER - if this is the one under the road that has a gate in it after about 15 meters then thats it but some data bases suggest a lower one just off the main road layby at the Junction, across the stream. Plenty of spoil heaps in this particular area.
BOLD PIT - maybe ony 100 or so West of Jacobs Dream Mine but hazardous woodland slope and no discernable paths. I wasnt prepared to risk life and limb scrambling over from Jacobs Dream if there would be no end result
BONDOG - i suspect only accessible from another mine network as shafts capped

Any help would be great

There is no "Slinter Mine". There are only two accessible adits - No 5 Adit and Good Luck Sough Mine. For surveys of these and a plan of the whole Slinter Wood see PDMHS Bulletin Vol 6 No 6 pp 263-279. You should be able to access this on the PDMHS website. Merry Tom, if I remember rightly, does have more than one entrance. For access I think that you need to contact WMRG. Boldpit Mine is a partly backfilled and grilled drawing shaft and two adits lower down the valley side - see my paper in Mining History vol 19 no 2 pp 1-13 (should be accessible from the PDMHS website). Bondog Hole I know of but have never been in it so can't help you there I'm afraid.

Thanks for the info. The area where this mine was is easily identifiable in the woods, and indeed has several shafts and adits. albeit inaccessible . Grante, possibly not called Slinter Mine but it is referred to this in several sources and is almost in Slinter Woods/Tor. Probably an unofficial name. Boldpit isnt easy to get to so im not sure if i have the effort required to tackle this in high foliage season.

Merry Tom has just two entrances, the lower one is just below New Road. I assume you're looking at the Buddlepit database which shows three markers for Merry Tom. The two from NMRS records have 10m grid refs that are fairly good, the one from the Peak Caving website has a 100m grid ref and shows a bit off position.

Would you be able to share those sources?

Worth a look at pdmhs 6 -6 which covers the slinter wood area.

Also search for sling tor wood.

Bold pit mine as said is partially back filled but there is a large shaft open to the surface just over the fence, not sure if it connects but wouldn't be surprised, best approached by the goodluck footpath and past Gells at this time of year.

Bondog hole. This goes by a slightly different name on the barmasters map ,bond dog hole ,it worked a hading vein. There is also wiggley dog hole .not sure if this is a separate venture. Both workings are still accessable via other mines and very interesting.

I agree. PCW sometimes has slightly wayward markers which i have been helping to improve but this so called lower one seems a bit off as the main level seems to be the one under the road with the one higher up, possibly collapsed. Slinter Mine also seems to have a wayward marker on PCW
