Attention electric diggers!

Many moons ago, when we were digging in Ullet Gill, I made up this cable reel so we could run a 110V drill for making shot holes.

It's 100m of four core 2.5mm sq. It's currently wired as a three core 110V lead with one core spare, but it could perhaps be better wired so it was effectively 2 x 5mm sq with no earth. (Contact me if you need advice on how to do this safely.)

Note also that the socket is on the free end, so this can be dragged down the cave and the excess cable stays on the drum.

It's bloody heavy - it weighs just shy of 30kg - but if you're running a mains drill then presumably you have a generator and a vehicle to carry it in.

I'm offering it free to anyone who can make good use of it, but you have to arrange for it to be collected from Great Hucklow in two weeks or less.

If no one wants it, I'll weigh it in for the copper value.

Nick.

PS: I would post a picture but when I try, the following errors pops up: "Your attachment has failed security checks and cannot be uploaded. Please consult the forum administrator." This despite the fact that the pictures on my other three posts this afternoon have apparently been fine.

The value in the scrap cable may be more in the PTFE than the copper.
I was surprised to be told this by our local scrap merchants. They pay about ?10 for a bag (e.g. ex sand bag) full of junk cables with the ends and plugs cut off. I got rid of a lot of old computer pouer cables this way.

Great offer! I just drag lots of batteries down caves (and also don't own a generator), but the cable seems like a very worthwhile resource that definitely shouldn't go to waste.
I've posted on the TSG forum, if no one else steps forward I think it would make a good addition to the technical tackle store.

Thanks for the interest all.

The cable has found a new home supplying a borehole pump near Longnor, and the cable reel is being used to tidy up the wiring left over after the robot trials at Ecton.

@ Mark, if you need extension leads then there are also a couple of longish (50m+) lengths of arctic grade blue three core if they are any use to you? They are not on reels, just loose coiled.
