Hi All,

Me and a buddy of mine were exploring the far reaches beyond Toyland in Vally entrance and I have a question about an aven in there. I will try to describe its location.

From the Pitch. (The proper pitch beyond Toyland not the climb, into Toyland) There is a route through boulders which is not shown on the survey I can see. Once through the boulders the route soon closes down but if you take the inlet to the right you go down a boulder strewn largly stooping streamway that ends in a duck. Beyond which is some short walking passage where a climb up (following the water) reaches the only passage that seems to go anywhere. Beyond this passage the roof lowers necessitating you to go up an obscure climb to reach a rift before rejoining the water. Along this rift there is a aven, it is this aven I am interested in.

My question after all this, is has that aven been climbed? It looked free climbable and I got two thirds the way up before turning back as my mate had not come through that far so I did not want to do top third which looked rather risky, alone. In total It went up at least 30 feet or so and there seemed to be a passage at the top.

Anyone know anything about it? My guess on a line survey I found it could link to Thorney pot because by that point I estimate have only have been 100ft from the surface.

Good Friday Passages pass within 15 m of Thorney Pot, but Fulk is probably the best person around to respond as I think he was involved in the explorations in about 1976.

When was you there alex? Thought I saw you getting changed over the weekend but I had 4 more cars behind so I didnt stop

No idea but I'd hazard a guess it was climbed (especially if it was as easy as you say) - have you looked at the Cascade Inlet survey?

Ah, yes...  I've been trying to work out what was wrong with the heading of this thread.  Was thinking you'd found a lady selling cosmetics well deep below Kingsdale...

I am never sure on the spelling as my spell checker says both avon and aven are wrong. I will check to see if I have already looked at that one Dunc, though I think Cascade inlet is a different direction then the way I went.

Edit: The only one I could find is the one from 1960s, which only shows to the boulder slope. Could you e-mail me the link to the one which you are referring to?

P.s. I was there Saturday btw

Hey guys, I was in Toyland recently and made it to the chamber. Once in the chamber, to the left is a boulder climb you can go up and off to the right at the top was a small narrow flowstone passage. I had to shuffle on my side as it was very tight and after a few metres it stepped up through a hole above into more of the same but it was too tight for my helmet and SRT kit, and maybe even my obersuit. Anyone got any info if this goes anywhere or any survey maps? If not I will have to return. Mind you there was a plastic bag at the step-up so somebody has reached it before, but beyond...who knows.
