Following on from Under 18 membership and student membership this week I'd like to give you some more information about non-caving membership of the BCA. This post isn't aimed at persuading anyone to join, or change their membership type - just to raise awareness of the different memberships BCA offers.

Non-caving membership is available for just £8 for the full year, reducing every quarter, down to just £2 from October the 1st.

Who is non-caving membership of the BCA aimed at?
For members who wish to be socially involved in the caving scene or keep in touch with, and support the BCA. Members who wish to attend meetings and socials, but not participate in surface or underground trips and projects should join BCA as a non-caving member.
(Note: Anyone who is physically active in the caving scene, even if they don't go underground, should join as a caving member. This may include those who take part in surface digs, dye tracing projects, surface prospecting etc)

In reality a wide range of people join BCA as non-caving members, including:
  • Retired cavers who wish to stay connected to the BCA/ their clubs after hanging up their wellies
  • Partners/ family of active cavers who wish to be a member of a club and attend socials etc
  • People who don't go underground but want to join BCRA (as BCA membership is a pre-requisite of BCRA membership)
  • Members of mixed discipline clubs (e.g. caving and climbing clubs) who never go underground - so only the active caving members need to pay the full £24 per year.
And others too.
