The 2026 BCRA Cave Science Symposium field meeting will take place on Sunday 18th October in the Manifold valley in the Peak District, led by Dr Andy Farrant and Prof. John Gunn.
The field trip will involve a surface walk down the fascinating Manifold valley, visiting some of the caves in the area including Thor’s Cave and Elder Bush Cave. We will cover a range of topics including cave formation, landscape evolution, hydrogeology and tracer testing, archaeology, and cave art, so something for everyone. No caving kit is required but a light and helmet will be handy for Thor’s Cave and Elder Bush Cave. Good boots will be useful as we will be walking in the (dry) river bed weather permitting. The field trip is open to everyone, not just those who attended the Cave Science Symposium on the Saturday.
