Beck Head Stream Cave; temporary access problem

The entrance to Beck Head Stream Passage (to use its proper name, as per the BPC didcoverers) is currently obstructed. A lot of tree work is happening on the estate (related to the ash die back problem) and it may be some time before this is completed. As I type there's a large trunk balanced over the cave entrance and quite a few rocks have fallen in. When all the lumber is eventially cleared from the area, it may need a bit of work by cavers to clear the foot of the small shaft just inside the entrance.

I'll keep an eye on it and update forum users, as appropriate.

I have erroneously referred to that as Foxholes for years! Thinking Beck Head Stream Passage and Clapham Beck Head cave were the same place.  :-[

"Clapham Beck Head cave" doesn't exist.

Clapham Beck Head is where the outflow from the Gaping Gill system emerges into daylight.

"Beck Head Stream Cave" is what many cavers call what was originally named "Beck Head Stream Passage" by the BPC discoverers.

CBH and BHSC/P are connected (via a sumped choked area) but have separate entrances. The normal cavers' way into BHSC/P is via the entrance seen in the pictures with the original post.

The entrance shaft will have to be enlarged or dug back
to enable any rocks to be removed from the tight bedding
at the bottom .

Yes, it's a bit cramped down there. Hopefully not much will have gone past the entrance slope.

Just bear in mind that if the entrance were made bigger ,in high flood the show cave
would be less prone to flooding as this would release some of the pressure .

A brief update; I believe a tree contractor has now been asked to deal with this (eventually). He is a caver himself, so likely to be sensitive to the need to remove the big trunk without it slipping down the cave entrance. He has other jobs to do first though so, for the time being, consider that Beck Head Stream Passage / Cave is not safe to enter.
