You know when the baying masses request a song at the end of a concert and the band reluctantly have to theatrically comply.

This reminds me of going to watch Slade playing at Manchester University (circa 1978/9). It was well past their early seventies glam rock heyday and we went as much for a laugh as anything. Well, they were absolutely stupendous and went down a storm, a real rocking tour de force. The audience was very varied - punks, rockers and 'normal' people all having a great time. Of course, we all wanted 'Merry Christmas' as an encore and of course they ignored us (it wasn't anywhere near Christmas).
