Blast From The Past

The Great Divide. Ladders or SRT ? PPTCC c1970.

The newbies have re rigged Ascension in Reservoir Hole as a free hang SRT drop off Heavens Landing.

Apparently our platform and fixed ladder are not techy enough. I will return to High Country but on the ladders so boo.

Me with Pete Rose in Wales early 70's . Note my lovely home made wet suit. You got the stiff neoprene sheets, glue and tape with the plans. Luckily my mum was a dressmaker .Butt glue the cut out pieces with smelly sticky Evostik or summat then tape the joins. If you want a related story here tis.

A long departed caver friend carried his kit in the car. He left his Nife Cell next to his suit which leaked onto the crutch piece.

Those with a sensitive disposition stop reading now.

The liquid dried and crystallised un noticed.

Are you still with this ? --

Yes well next trip it got reactivated by sweat and caused nasty burns to his dangly bit. Nearly needed a skin graft.

Thats me for now as I am feeling quite queasy.

The Victorians kept greater care of dangly bits it seems. I do remember another issue with such things called " Daren Dick ". If you have ever flogged through The Three Deserts in a wet suit in Slaughter Stream Cave you might know what I mean.

The latter would have even improved the original of this 1960's view of bailing Swildons Mud Sump. Bloody students chucked the water at me.

This is my favourite thread you have ever posted.

Just shows the friendship and adventure caving provides :)
Ohh that is so kind. P. They were different days 50 - 60 years ago to be sure. We learned it all the hard way. No certificates and bossy cave wardens. Hardly any taping. Like the now spoiled formations we see their pristine conditions and many old friends now gone too. Indeed a blast from the past. Must hurry on. Its a bit warm in the home today and nurse is due around with the meds. XX
