Bolt resin recommendations

Feels lazy just to throw a link, but mostly everything you need to know...

TLDR, they settled on Fischer FIS V

Warning, I've bought FIS anchor resin from Screwfix (for building) and they gave me out of date tubes, only the previous month expiry, and I thought it doesn't matter it's not for bolts for safety, so accepted it. It wasn't great and would cure so fast it was hard to use, it was curing almost immediately, I'd assumed that out of date would mean slow cure but not those 2 tubes!!. Check the dates of anything you buy

TLDR, they settled on Fischer FIS V

But in the CNCC committee meeting last Saturday, they removed approval from FIS V (because of high shrinkage), leaving only FIS EM Plus as approved by CNCC.

FIS V was a CNCC preferred resin for many years but as ChrisB has said above, we now only approve use of FIS EM Plus for all new CNCC installations.

Does anyone know for certain whether the resins generally expand very slightly on curing? If the adhesion is only from friction alone, the bond is remarkably strong, considering how difficult it is to rough up the hole before injection. Unless the hole is 'rough enough' at the microscopic level already? I do admit to not being entirely certain on this.

• Epoxy resin shrinks slightly during hardening
• Polyester resin shrinks during hardening
• Cement mixed in to hybrid resins to react with the water created during hardening (condensation polymerisation) shrinks slightly during hardening

Clearly companies are going to develop their anchor resins to minimise shrinking, but they will shrink a little
