You would fit through the squeeze Ian I could not

Blimey. Well, if Buddy does not fit then 99.9999999999% of the rest of us can forget it!
If this "development" is real,
Peter Bennet of M.C.G. ought to be able to push it.
(If he's not too busy)

Why do you doubt it ?  :wall:  it is real and i think the diggers are very capable of pushing it.

I hope it is real & a monster system to rival Swildons.

sory i didnt mean to sugest otherwise i thought from duncans post that the team were after help and being of a somewhat thiner than average build thought i might be able to help dont have any wish to tread on anyones toes.

Here we go, some photos, but as i mentioned earlier, my first time at underground photography, so not got the knack yet.

The duck (as yet unnamed), with Buddy's welly on the other side

Me stood in duck.

It's very difficult to get a sense of it's like there from the pictures.
From the entrance passage, 10 metres of tightish crawl which opens a bit in the middle as it bends round to the right, then tighter under some rock hanging down from ceiling. Sliding out over spoil bags which partially block the way, emerge in dig chamber, roughly 3 metres long, about 1.5 wide and 2 high, but one wall of sloping mud, so not a lot of useful room. Immediately on the right as you come into chamber, dug out hole now filled with water but had small airspace at top (see picture).
Through the duck, into confined rift junction. Rift leading off to right too tight at moment, but filled with loose sand and gravel. Ahead and up, very tight squeeze (possibly the smallest thing I could fit through without breaking something) leads up to small chamber at top of open rift. At top of rift, could see down to where rift opened, and a pool of water was below. Hammer and chisel work needed, perhaps the capping methods Buddy was telling us about.
Very exciting. Will let you all know as it develops.

You probably want to modify the end tags from /img] to [/img] so that the pictures appear in the post.

Keep making the passage larger please...  :-[

Hi chaps, very sorry about my scepticism,
it does look rather good, and Ali is grinning!

Well of course - she's in a squalid tight dig covered in slime.  What more could this girl want?!

so you have quite a reputation for your sarcasm then Mr whitelackington. I thought the whole point of this forum was to gain knowledge, share ideas and maybe get i little bit of help from your fellow cavers on the mendips. I thought that people might like to hear an interesting bit of news. It seems that no one wants to talk about there 'secret' digging location and any new breakthroughs. I'm not part of a club yet and it has been good to get advice and help from from experienced cavers, as this is our first dig and being such a dangerous activity of cave digging i see no problem in getting some help. thanks to all the people that have helped us and will keep everyone posted as progress continues.

Have you lot broken through then.
The point of the forum is knowledge, help
but also humour which might also possibly occasionally include sarcasim.

I expect they're doing the survey for you and are too busy trying to get it finished to type stuff here meanwhile.

we are on a bit a break at the moment, it being Christmas and all. We had a bit of bad wheather and it created a lot of backfill from loose mud which wasn't bagged yet. did not realises how much water came down where we where. can still just about get though but needs a full digging team down there to open it up fully again and then we can start capping to get down the rift.

Gone a tad quiet lately

Which reminds me... how's the remediation/stabilisation work going on at Cow Hole?
I believe you are posting on the wrong thread,
there is a cow hole thread.
Do The C.S.C.C. still have meetings
or are they just virtual these days?

have an interesting photo for everyone to look at. I found it while digging, i know nothing of animal bones or what it might be. As for the dig it is slowly coming along had lots of rain and lots of backfill have built a dam now to stop it happening again, and been enlarging things to cater for the slightly bigger caver. will keep everyone posted as progress continues.
