Textiles and their northern roots for outdoor exploration

It has been brought to our attention that the British Textile Biennial is holding an exhibition called ‘Pioneers of the Material World’:

Towneley Hall, Burnley, until Christmas, Wednesday to Sunday 12:00-16:30.

This exhibition showcases some of the technical textiles that have been developed in our northern region (Lancashire) over the decades. This includes early caving suits used in the 1967 Gouffre Berger expedition and assortment of other equipment designed specifically for extreme environments:

The caving connection here is only a very small part of the story, but we thought this might be an interesting exhibition to celebrate how our region has helped shape extreme outdoor equipment over the last century, if anyone is interested in that sort of thing :)
