In relation to Chris's post (not the loud one, the one before that) it is an open secret that not every vandalised padlock at BFM can be blamed, let us say, on people who don't know where the Hunter's is.

That being the case, perhaps one of the groups (not formal groups, I'm not pointing fingers) who can be blamed for the current situation is arrogant irresponsible cavers.

Arrogant AND irresponsible. Shurely shome mishtake? ... I always thought cavers were one or t'other!

Apologies i wasn't trying to be unhelpful...
What i was trying to say is that as it is a relatively simple trip and yet AWT have decided its so unsafe it needs to completely prohibit access...what would happen if the same principle were applied wholesale...

Apology accepted; I think we can see your point about it being an easy trip. The problem is that some mines have an unnerving tendency to collapse from time to time without any warning or prior notice. BFM may not be remotely liable to collapse but it's not unreasonable for an access controlling body to be anxious about such events.
