Calories “required” for a “tourist trip” down the Berger.

After a pleasant cycle in the Yorkshire Dales today, various electronic devices told me how many calories I had “used”. We have a Berger trip planned for the Summer, just idly musing how many calories required for a tourist trip, including camping on the return.
Anyone have an informed estimate (or just some wild guess !!)

According to Garmin Fenix, I used 2200 'active calories' rigging to Dome Junction & back in 3.5 hours, carrying half the rope. Some of this was expended stuck in the vertical slot and also lowering my mate head first down a hole to retrieve his tobacco pouch.

The theoretical potential energy gained / work needed to lift my 110kg + 20kg of stuff up 60m is 76.5kJ = 18 kcal

I perhaps need to work on my efficiency..

I think this may be overestimated - I’m no expert, but if I cycle at a high intensity for 3 hours - with a power meter which is the most accurate way of measuring calories in any sport - then I burn about the same. Surely caving cannot use the same amount of energy as 3 hours of non-stop cycling?

Again, I’m no expert!

Wild ballpark guesstimate based on 12 hours actual caving time: 8,000 ish. Based on various cycling/running events I’d be surprised if that was wildly out!

Yeah, I think it’s probably nonsense too. 500cal per hr for hill walking. It must be around or less than that, allowing for waiting and faff.

For longer activities, you have the base calories to think about too, which must be 50-100 cal per hr or so sat on the sofa.

Ian,
During our last trip, Jacqui reckoned she burned 10,000kcal for the surface to surface trip.
However looking at this photo of you during the 2019 trip I reckon you only burned about 1000kcal 😂
