Carabiner lost

Bull Pot of the Witches - carabiner left on one of the bolts for the chimney last week as derigger said it was stuck. Has an orange tough tag on it, would be grateful for it's return!

The reason I guess this is because any experienced derigger will know to half-turn the carabiner gate while it is loaded because carabiners that are done up while loaded are nigh-on impossible to undo once they are unloaded.

I’m intrigued how the carabiner stayed but the rope came out? Did the derigger rethread whatever knot was attached to the biner? Probably okay if it’s toward the beginning of a traverse but having 10+m of rope to rethread through an alpine to get it undone sounds like a nightmare aha

Rope was tied on to first bolt, then this carabiner was the next bolt so not much to un thread

Fairly new to rigging and de rigging yeah, but had some experienced club members with him. I'd already gone back to vehicles to get changed!

This _should_ only really affect ancient carabiners without a internal gate stop (or possibly _really_ cheap steel ones); that said, loading a carabiner is usually a good way to help get it unjammed.

Sometimes screwgates just jam (usually grit etc. and usually overcome by sufficient force/smacking)... (one of the reasons I don't like screwgates on cowstails as all other options tend to fail open rather than shut, but that's a different can of worms!)

I used to use a loop of tape (gripped between thumb and forefinger) on the stuck sleeve to get more leverage. Usually worked.

Hopefully with a tag on it, it'll return to you at some point...

Or... if your mobile number is on it, you'll get unknown numbers message you occasionally with pics of your krab in spicy locations, a bit like the stolen garden gnome holiday snaps thing?
