Cave name?..Owl Hole depression/area.

Hi all, apologies if this has been asked before...what is the name of the lowest cave entrance in the Owl Hole depression (the one with the yellow gate), and does it go much deeper than the cascade chamber?

Thanks, Mike.

It doesnt have a separate name.  From the gate you drop down into Cascade chamber.  The dig (scaffolded) drops down about another 50 feet until it peters out when it reaches water level.  There didn't seem to be much hope of progress beyond this point although it always looked as though there might be a way on from Cascade chamber.

Thanks Nigel...heck of a draught coming out below the cascade chamber mind!

So no one is doing work there anymore I gather?

That squeeze is interesting into the cascade chamber, and I do consider myself quite a decent 'squeezer.

I remember being quite excited when we broke through into cascade - either 2006 or 2007.  After water level was reached we moved on to Democratic and then Bottle - Ken and Mick had spent many years digging in Owl and I think were ready for a change of scenery.,  I don't think anyone has done any work in there since but I remember the draught and am certain there is more to be found.  It just needs a determined (and younger) team, together with a bit of luck.  I think there has probably been some movement around the squeeze in recent years as it didn't seem to bad at the time.  For a long time there was an in situ handline.  I might pop and have a quick look as I am only 5 miles away.

You may be right, I would have thought a microwave sized boulder is there that never used to be, the other member of my party with me said it's a shame it wasn't so accessible to all. Easily poppable. Sounds like I pretty much got to the bottom, but being alone I didn't want to go much further than the pitch with the ramp hauling set up. Impressive engineering by you and the crew and that cascade is definitely worth a view to anyone visiting owl holes. I may return for further inspection, probably in the summer.

Mike.

...the handline is still in place, although it doesn't provide much use due to the awkward squeeze shape.
