Caving in NSW, Aus. What's the score/scene?

Can anyone shed light on caving in NSW in terms of access , srt , general scene etc?

I'm used to the freedom of the Yorkshire Dales :) and got the impression from my last visit down under that access might be an issue outside official club trips . Not that there is anything wrong with that as such, I love the club trips I do here, but I also do a fair bit solo or independently with friends.
