Ceilidh at Hidden Earth

Me again. While chairing the sing song on Sunday morning in Lecture theatre it occurred to me that I was looking at a generation who couldn't remember the regular ceilidhs we had back in the 80's and early 90's - along with a live band (where the venue permitted it). The audience were amazed to hear this and wanted them re-instituted but you will have to form a substantial pressure group to revive them I think. There are enough musicians out there I am sure to form a Hidden Earth Ceilidh band. You could invent some new dances such as stuffing the tackle bag or coiling the rope for example. The NSS convention has a band called the Terminal Siphons and very good they are too - all cavers.

Several of us discussed this following your excellent suggestion Peter. We concluded that The Stomp in its current form is a very important part of Hidden Earth for many and it would be a great shame to lose it, but that a ceilidh would be a wonderful addition to proceedings if both could be achieved. Perhaps it could happen on the Friday evening? Or, if we were able to get a later licence, could the ceilidh be an early-evening thing on the Saturday with The Stomp following on from it into the early hours? The SWCC has a very popular annual ceilidh and the RRCPC are holding one for the first time in a couple of months, so it's certainly a format there is enthusiasm for, but probably not to the exclusion of The Stomp.

On a side note would love a Mendip based one if there was a future CSCC/ mendip cave rescue fundraiser 🙂

May I suggest the name "The Porcellaneous Band" for the UK?
Why not?

MUSS had the that celebrated group of MUSSisians the Yordas Shale Band in 1974 as the cover photograph of Journal No. 7 (photo by the journal editor at that time - a certain Mr Juan Corin of this forum).

The licence is the venue's license, which we have to adhere to.
The issue with Friday night, it is set up time, sometimes this all works and we finish early, sometimes we have technical issues.
And don't think there is enough time. There is only just enough time for the dinner and stomp.
