Chat

In some ways i don't want it to become too heavily used as the bandwidth hit will probably be quite large.

Yeah, it's a "nice to have" feature - something in between the PM system and full blown messenger programs.

Hmm... It needs a timeout to log people out automatically - if there's such a feature.

Well, so far, on the three or four occasions I have gone to Chat and found anyone there, everyone has come over as mad as a box of frogs. Has anyone yet dared to attempt a non-drivel chat in there? Admittedly, mixed up in the drivel there have been some brief dialogues about meeting up to go underground. Otherwise the dour members will be pleased to know that Chat has kept several hours of drivel off the forum. It's a good feature, by the way. Lets see if the novelty wears off after a couple of weeks.

Possible. I guess. Although I believe the potential for drivel is greater than you may credit.
Indeed. Only you know how much potential you have for continuing to drivel in the chat room! All you need is someone else to drivel with.

I realised in hindsight that I would have had more fun staying in and 'chatting' than going down the pub to watch Liverpool. :(

Last night was the best night out I've had for ages.

And it would have been even more fun if you had stayed for my joke, which Downer said was even better than yours.

Anyway, we are (I am) beginning to drivel, so I'll stop now.

The drivel in chat is of a quite different calibre from the banter on the forums. Quick-fire, inane and humungously shallow, if there had ever been anything like that on the forums it would have, and should have, been stopped. Perhaps.

There's a handful of us who have had a bit of fun in chat over the last few days. I'm guessing the number of posts on the forums is down  :-\ but whether the quality has improved, I wouldn't like to say  :-\ Since the introduction of chat coincided with a clampdown on drivel, threatening to ban people and trimming threads, I don't think  :-\ it's possible to attribute any changes to any one cause. Doubtless in the long term, the effect will be to create a clique of hardened drivellers who will periodically burst forth and wreak havoc....

Oddly enough the Friday night session, when one would have expected everyone to let their hair down, was short and sane and almost exclusively about caving experiences. Even the odd "dour" member turned up and drivelled intelligently. Chat, by it's nature, unless pre-arranged, is random and this does mean you hit subjects you would not think of talking about on the forum. Which is a good thing IMO.

Twice I popped in last night to chat to Downer, and he left both times just after I arrived.    :(

Awwe!

It's a bug in the software. The moment you arrive it tells you all the people who have left - only it states the current time instead of when they really went.
