We recently received these fantastic photos from Ned, who was the winner of the CHECC digging write-up competition, where the prize included a length of SpanSet rope and a set of carabiners. It’s great to see the kit being put to such good use within the caving community.

The rope has been used to provide continuous access to a new digging site on the Gower, where the team are exploring the kilometres of passage between the water sink and the resurgence far below at the bottom of the valley. It sounds like an exciting project with the potential to break through into new, unknown passages at any time.

The rope and carabiners have also been used extensively in SRT training sessions for new members of Cardiff Caving Club, helping freshers learn the vertical skills needed to move safely underground. It’s brilliant to see equipment being used not only for exploration, but also to help train and develop the next generation of cavers.

A big thank you to Ned for sharing these images and for letting us see how the equipment is being used out in the field. It’s always great for us at SpanSet to see our gear supporting real adventures and helping people stay safe while exploring underground.

Wishing the team the best of luck with the digging on the Gower, we’ll be watching with interest to see what you uncover!
