At our AGM in March, our Secretary, Jill Bolton, will be stepping down after delivering three years of superb and enthusiastic administration and leadership 👏

Naturally, this means we are looking for a new volunteer to come forward for the CNCC Secretary role.

Job description:

Our Secretary should bring together resources to ensure meetings are as productive as possible, including booking the venue and preparing the relevant documents for our public website within the necessary timeframe, including agendas, reports and minutes. The role also involves working with the CNCC team to identify any possible agenda items that should be raised and researching and disseminating information relevant to the scheduled discussions.

Our Secretary is responsible for maintaining regular communications with our members and Committee, proactively encouraging participation from the entire caving community, and providing a friendly and proactive front-of-house service for the organisation.

Requirements:
  • Highly organised with good standard of written English.
  • Attendance in-person at four meetings per year (Saturday mornings, Clapham).
  • Computer confidence (word processing, PDF creation, email systems).
  • Good attention to detail and pride in the quality of documentation.
  • Regular checking and responding to emails.
The Secretary role requires 1-2 hours per week during quiet periods (mostly checking and replying to emails), but can sometimes require 4-5 hours per week during busier periods (e.g. on the approach to meetings or where complex agenda items require research or engagement with several people).

Support:

You would have the support of at least two former Secretary’s (Jill, 2023-2026, and also Matt, 2014-2020) who expect to remain involved in CNCC in other roles, and the entire CNCC Officer team. Furthermore, we welcome (and encourage) co-opting of additional volunteers to support our Secretary, which has previously included a dedicated volunteer to take and write up minutes, or an Assistant Secretary to share even more of the duties.

Interested?

If this role interests you, please get in touch now (PM or contact secretary@cncc.org.uk). If you are not a CNCC-regular, please try to get along to some of our upcoming meetings (see below) to meet us and see what we are about. We are happy to start working with interested individuals now.
