• Help us work out the future of the Inglesport Café

We've been trading since 1977 and next year will be our 50th anniversary.

The café has been part of that for a long time, running quietly in the background for years, and we don't think it always gets the credit it deserves as a genuine community hub. But we need to be straight with you: the café is under real pressure, and we’re not sure of the best path forward.....

Cognitive dissonance

Who knows. Seems counterintuitive to me...

Is 2m stalactites that big a deal there? I guess I'm used to seeing huge formations here in the states. But you know, here in America we like things big :P

The thing is that in order to get a stalactite 2m high, you need a passage at least 2m high in the first place. So if these are the tallest stals in Scotland, what does that tell you about a lot of Scottish caves?

2 m is quite big for Scotland. Mind, the USA hasn't got a 6.5 m stalactite and even Ireland has got one of those.

Well didn't Ireland use to hold the record? And we don't know for sure the US doesn't have a bigger ones....caves being discovered all the time here. Lotttts of places to look still ;) As far as 2m goes though, that sort of size I've seen a lot of. 6.5m does sound quite impressive though!  Doesn't OFD have a huge one too? I feel like there is something big there named...oh gosh can't remember...it's a type of gum though I think, i remember it made me laugh.

YA! Trident. Thanks! I knew it was a type of gum! It made me giggle, I imagine this hugggge formation stuck to the ceiling by a wad of chewed gum!

It is probable that this discovery will gain the Jrat silver shovel. Between now and November to beat it somebody will have to find and survey over 300 metres of passage on either Mendip or in Scotland. Also I reckon even if you knew the cave was in Applecross you would be hard put to locate it without some local knowledge.
