Copy available: NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED

There is an as new (i.e. pristine) copy of Mike Cooper's book available in exchange for a meaningful donation to the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association. It's Harry Long's personal copy. The book is highly sought after and has featured on this forum several times (e.g. https://ukcaving.com/board/index.php?threads/for-sale-not-for-the-fainthearted.33844/).

You would need to make your donation direct to the UWFRA charity by BACS, with a specific reference. The winner will be told the necessary details and as soon as the UWFRA Treasurer tells me the donation has dropped in we can make the necessary arrangements to get the book to you. This would either be by caver post (carefully packaged) or you could collect in person, either from Settle or from the NPC (at Green Close, Clapham). Other Dales collection points might be possible; we'll do our best.

To keep you all entertained, let's have a bit of an auction! But please don't post your bids directly on here; PM them to me and from time to time I'll add a note in this topic so folk know the value of the most generous bid (anonymously). Let's say we'll close the bidding in the middle of next week (depending which day I go caving). Good luck! (y)

That last sentence should read

"Let's say we'll close the bidding in the middle of next week (depending which day I go caving). Good luck! (y)"

No idea where the strike through came from!

By the way, thanks to those who have already responded with a PM. I'll post the amount of the highest offer so far tomorrow.

Thank you to the various folk who have made generous offers. The highest bidder by early this morning has kindly offered £100. But there's a few days to go.

Going to close the bidding on this after I've had my tea this evening. You've all done well between you!

OK folks, I'm fed and watered now and it's time to bring this to a close. Whilst eating my tea I received yet another offer, this time of a £150 donation to the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association; wow! So that person gets this book.

Please could I thank the various other cavers who have also offered generous donations themselves? I'm grateful for all of them and I'm sorry you weren't successful (this time). But perhaps all is not lost; I seem to be asked fairly often to find good homes for collections of books and journals. As and when another copy of NFTFH comes my way I'll contact you all by PM privately first, as it's obvious you really wanted one.

Anyway, well done everybody; you'll have made the UWFRA Treasurer a happy man. :)
