I just noticed that the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust at Clapham is apparently giving away copies of this utterly excellent book free.
They'll post it to you for £5 or I think you could probably pick it up in person midweek to avoid postal costs.
It's a fantastic book, whether you're a caver or just a Dales lover.

Have a look at this and scroll down:

I hope this is useful to at least someone.

Thanks for this, Pitlamp. I've just ordered my free copy plus a donation (only seems fair!).

Ordered a copy. My late aunt took me up from the relatively little route from Cold Cotes probably when I was 11 or 12. I remember looking into Long Kin West - my grandfather had a copy of Pennine Underground. It was thick mist all the way - until we left the summit of course! It was some years before I did any caving in the Dales but seeing these hole in the ground piqued my curiosity as well as the tale my aunt told of being ferried to Big Bertha in White Scar after hours at the show cave..

I have a similar tale aged about 14. Myself and a few friends from school used buses and the train to mount our first expedition to the Hill. Our ascent was via Clapham and Clapdale where we explored Beck Head Stream Cave up to the sump above Broadbent Falls with our handheld torches. We descended to Meregill then followed the plateau round past Crina Bottom and Newby Moss looking into Long Kin West and then back to Clapham and the station. We hadn't really considered that the station isn't actually in the village so our day out was quite a long one! It would definitely see me off these days. I might have also been carrying a copy of Pennine Underground since I knew where the various caves were and what they involved. I used to order books from Dalesman Publishing at Clapham (paper order forms and postal orders!). It's my version of 'jumpers for goalposts'.

Hi all. FYI. I had a phone call from the YDMT this morning asking why so many people had ordered the book over the weekend. I was able to explain it was the power of the internet and UKcaving. The lady was very pleased that over thirty orders had been placed. I didn't say, but I suspected the main attraction was that the book cost nowt. ;)

These just dropped through the letterbox. Looking forward to having a read later!

I received a book yesterday (ordered on 11th). Unfortunately, it's not the one I think I ordered. It's a nice book about trees in the Dales by David Joy rather than the Ingleborough book. Either I ordered incorrectly online or someone put the wrong book into the package? I tried re-ordering yesterday but for some reason the online form would not work for me.
