At the time... it depends a bit if I was near a public right of way and what I was up to but generally asked them in robust anglo saxon why they were trying to throw things in part of the water source. Generally I have found my involvement makes things worse, so whoever filmed it did the right thing.

These people say "We Would love to Hear From You"
Ed Davies 07852 963 432 Director <-- the one most likely to be involved in actual operations and logistics, staff and management
Will Horner 07730 218136 Director
Anthony Pryce 07807 553 059 Secretary

They don't own land, they pay the farmers and this is a new venue for them
"Cwm Rhaiader (meaning ?valley of the waterfall?) Estate near the village of Machnylleth, in mid Wales, the Dyfi Falls shoot is a real gem. The shoot is a brand-new addition to our portfolio for the 2020/21 season"

It is actually quite plausible that this is a gamekeeper who is new and has been sacked. It wasn't one of the 3 people listed above

Maybe someone could ask Ed if he has had the carcasses removed from there and if not does he need help (for a fee, which would be passed to mountain and cave rescue) I don't live locally but if I did I would offer

Edit: just realised this is last weekend of shooting in the season (had to Google, it's not on my social calendar!!) So a temp shoot worker being sacked ending say: Wednesday would mean nothing at all

Was in North Wales at the weekend (Dee valley) and it was like the battle of the Somme was happening over the other side of the valley.  Just volleys of gunfire all day.  Guessing not all the game gets eaten then.  Just another pointless toff bloodsport.

Perhaps he was feeding the Knockers?

On a more serious note. There's nothing less attractive than a guy shooting birds from the sky, especially that they have no intention to eat or feed anything else with.

Isn?t this simply a case of the unspeakable in pursuit of the uneatable?

No, pheasants are edible
Yes, But of the 20-27 million raised each year estimates are that >85% are buried/burned/dumped. Raised in a cage, killed and dumped

Their mess needs cleaning up, but why it is legal is a mystery to me

Of course. It's my opinion that all raised chicks should be straight into the food system with fines for non-use. It is a nice meat

There's a fascinating piece by George Monbiot about just how weird pheasant shooting is, particularly their definition in law. Well worth a read: https://www.monbiot.com/2014/04/28/the-shooting-party/

So its not the birds being killed per se you object to, more a combination of the killing and who's doing it?
Pretty much.. yes.

I've eaten pheasant shot at a shoot. I'd happily shoot a pheasant, pluck cook and eat it myself.

But it's clear that there is no real intention to shoot to provide. It's just target practice for fun for the wealthy.  Toffs was perhaps a poor choice of word. Class doesn't necessarily enter into it. But wealth certainly does.

I agree with Sam. I was very into guns in a 'previous life'. Dont like them now for some reason. But basically, what you kill you eat.
Maybe they should try clay shooting.

I used to go on organised shoots but stopped in disgust when I saw what happened to the excess birds (ploughed into a hole in the ground). I still go rough shooting (important to use lead free shot) and eat and enjoy the very few pheasant that result - my favourite recipe is to confit it slowly with pears, sesame and gochukang (korean sauce). Add or subtract chillies depending on how much beer has preceded it....

Full recipe to follow.

That brings to mind the Fabulous Furry Freaks Brothers episode where Fat Freddy bought a rifle with the intention of hunting for food, promised Franklin and Phineas he'd eat whatever he killed, then killed a rat when the gun went off accidentally...

One thing that puzzles me slightly is the outcry (justified) over dumping of shot game, but indifference towards the (arguably) more important subject of food waste in general. As a society (and again a generalisation) we largely ignore the enormous waste of food resources, particularly upstream of our personal consumption.

(And apologies for all the parentheses)
