Anyone know what's happened to the Derbyshire caver magazine??

I paid the ?10 subscription but they haven't released an issue  since which was back in the summer. So I Haven't actually had one yet 😩

That's mainly because everyone sends their Derbyshire articles to Descent instead of us (I'm the editor). The PDMHS Newsletter is also quarterly and always after mining-related content, and I'm a regular contributor to that, so it's partly my fault too! I'm sorry you haven't had any issues yet, and the next one is in the pipeline, but the simple fact is that hardly anyone ever sends me any content, even with regular requests on here, so without writing it all ourselves (impossible), there's not a lot we can do about it. I can't even get my own club to write trip reports for our own website.

To be fair, not many people are comfortable or interested in writing articles, but part of an editor's job is to sort that out, where possible, so I'm always happy to get submissions. Maybe you could send me something and see your name in print? Though that's as good as it gets :)

Yes that makes sense. I'm the newsletter editor for one of my clubs and it's impossible to get submissions from members bar a couple.
Yeah I'll happily write something for you 😊

Surely with all the interesting developments in Stoney lately, one of that crew would succomb to a spot of targeted arm bending?

At the moment I'm not active in the Peak (too many caving projects on the go elsewhere) but I've done a lot over the years and always found time to write stuff for DCA as well as my own club journal. Once it's done for one it's not too difficult to adapt stuff for the other or for Descent.

Often the most difficult bit is actually making a start . . .

Yes, but one of that crew is also Peak editor for Descent! You can see the problem. We have more publications to produce than we have people who can do projects - or at least write them up. I'd like Derbyshire Caver to present good quality articles, not least as the more short and sweet 'news' is so much easier communicated online - and we also now have the Cave Registry which serves some of that need too. I'm often thinking of articles that are somewhat speculative, based on a theory that might arise from a kitchen conversation, but often the backup research ends up taking far longer than I can afford to do.
