Drinks bottle

What type of water bottle do you take underground? I'm always thirsty so take one each trip. Have successfully used a platypus flexible bottle for a long time but my recent one has sprung a leak after not many trips and curious to know if there's anything better that's reusable.. (bpa free)

For ages I swore by Capri sun pouches as they fit in all sorts of places and you can flatten and roll up when finished, single use plastic though 😞
All good until a Daren C trip in Jan, when 2 burst inside my dry container, nothing leaked into the cave though 😢. Will use again but only less aggressive environments

I used to get them too, but it's nice to be able to drink throughout the trip and not all in one go :)

Old and new. New is from a "Pound shop"

Vinegar bottles - I go through a fair bit pickling beetroot / cleaning lime scale off things. The bottles are a perfect size and much more robust than other 'single use' bottles. You can definitely get 20 or 30 trips out of one and it makes good use of something that would otherwise be chucked in the recycling bin. I bet it makes the bin men wonder why my vinegar bottles are always scratched to buggery and covered in mud. You'll need to give them a good rinse out first though!

It's not just me!

People make fun of me :D it's amazing how iconic they are that people can spot them without the labels on.

I take a 1.5L Sigg for trips long enough that I'll need fresh water and I'm not sure of a decent water source.

If I'm doing a trip that I know I can get water reasonably often, I take a 500ml collapsible 'bottle' from Decathlon, around a tenner in the Running section. This has lasted me 3 years of expeditions and regular Draenen camps, being kept in a small tackle bag on my waist. I pop an A-Z vitamin & electrolyte tablet in it (mainly for flavour) and drink the contents in one sitting so I'm not carrying the water round with me.

I get through a moderate amount of bottled drinks, and will use one of those prior to recycling. For preference I drink diluted squash, daily making up a couple of litres in the previous concentrate bottles. For the underground I prefer tap water in case I have to wash gritty eyes or minor scrapes. The good lady wife prefers flavoured water...

This sort of thing?

Crap plastic water bottle wrapped in duct tape and mud. Tie a cord or make a loop with tape to attach the bottle to belt via krab.

I've used for a number of years now on surface and underground Super Sparrow bottles. Really like them

Dropped and rolled 15m down Swirral Edge a few weekends ago, survived and thankfully didn't disappear down the side proper in the heatwave day.

You can get ones with lids! not so frequently seen, but often in supermarkets.

Was interesting to go to the Outdoor show, with a lot of focus on triathon mountaineering etc, where the focus is on calculated nutrition, and a lot more hydration that we would normally take caving.

I am now trying to take more, and drink more, I'm not yet sure how much the difference the various powders etc make, but a decent water bottle is a must.

Thanks that's useful to know!

I use a 600ml smartwater bottle; find the plastic a lot sturdier than other water bottles even after I suck the air out to compress it after I've finished drinking. If I have to buy a meal deal for some reason then I pick one of those and save it to replace my current bottle in the future. I think I got at least 20 out of the last one and I only recycled it when the cap got lost, which shouldn't happen with the new attached caps. I've tried both Sigg and Nalgenes in the past but got annoyed by them bulking up my SRT bag and occasionally snagging me in grabby bits.
