Edited posts - bug?

Today I did some minor changes to a post, after replies had been posted. In the past there was an automatic note added to say the post was edited and who did it. This did not happen so I wonder if there is a bug. Before I get moaned at, the changes did not involve anything serious like a change of context etc etc.

This ties in with my comment here. I still can't remember which posts I saw change, but at least if you've encountered this on your own edits it means I'm not going mad...

[EDIT] At least it's one less bit of evidence anyway...
[EDIT 2] Does the last edit text appear on your own posts? I'm not seeing it...

Puzzled, so testing.

Should have said "curious".

OK - modified that twice now - no note on my screen.

Could it be a browser related thing - to be honest I don't ever recall seeing a system note that said "edited"?

I have also noted that sometimes an "edited" tag appear at the bottom of the post and sometimes it doesn't. I don't know why that is.

I have a feeling this happened a few years ago as well. It would also explain why a certain person felt his posts were recently being moderated sneakily.

There's a delay on the editing function, though I have no idea how long it's set to. I generally find that if I post and then edit within the next five mins or so, no 'edited' message is displayed. If you edit after an hour or so, it will. Somewhere inbetween is the magic number.

EDIT - just testing the function - one minute after posting. Let's see...yup, no message.

Can you edit after an hour or so? I thought it was a 30 min limit, after which the "modify" option disappears.

Maybe they only come up if you give a reason, oh wait, that box doesn't come up asking why (I'm sure you could put something like 'spealing miatacks') in a little box

I thought it was until someone else replied in respose? :-\ :-\

The converse isn't true. I've just checked on a post of mine to which no-one has replied, yet the "modify" button has gone.

In the past I have modified posts (to correct spelling not to change meaning) after people have responded.

.... I've just done a search - Bubba, thread "Can you edit your posts?" Nov 29 2006 says "You *should* be able to edit your post for 1/2 hour after you post it." so unless something has changed, that a definitive answer on when you can edit.

What it doesn't sort is why some people get the little box where you enter the reason for your edit, and some people don't.

I would expect that to be a selectable option in your account profile?  In the look and layout section there is an option for quick moderation as don't show, checkboxes or icons?

edit: actually not sure if that does anything  :-[

I have edited the odd post in the past, when I've noticed my keyboard has made a stupid spelling mistake for me  :-[

I've never had the option to say that I've edited the post or why.

I've just altered my profile to give a checkbox for quick moderation....

Let's see what that does.

Editing now... (half a minute after posting).  There was the "Modify" icon next to the "Quote" one.  Click on it.  Get opportunity to type this.

Can't see anything to enter "reason for edit"...

Editing again after Peter's reply....

Second edit  -  this time using the icon at the bottom right of the message.

Third edit - that brought up an "Edited..." message - but I don't think I had any opportunity so say why.

All I recall is the little note it adds to say it has been changed. This I think always came up if a post was changed in the brief window between a reply being posted and the time limit expiring.

So I don't seem to have the option to explain why I edited my message.
Unless, that is, I type it in myself  -  <<Edited (or not, because I haven't actually edited this)...>>

Which is what I thought people had done when I saw it before.

Bubba, can you enlighten us?

Done it once or twice today, all within the half hour time limit I think :)
even after other replies.-------

-----heres another one (y)

But that didn't come up with the 'edited' message - hmmm?

Ten minutes, any 'edited' message?

Edit it now, after I've replied and see if you get the 'edited' message.

Next test would be to quote it and then edit it
