• Help us work out the future of the Inglesport Café

We've been trading since 1977 and next year will be our 50th anniversary.

The café has been part of that for a long time, running quietly in the background for years, and we don't think it always gets the credit it deserves as a genuine community hub. But we need to be straight with you: the café is under real pressure, and we’re not sure of the best path forward.....

Fermanagh Accommodation

Having recently returned from a very successful KCC trip to Fermanagh, I'd just like to give a shout out to the Cladagh Glen Scout Centre (http://cladaghglen.com/) and its warden Robin Ferguson. Having done some research before the trip, it was clear that there isn't much caver-friendly accommodation in the area. But the Scout Centre turned out to be absolutely ideal. It's very caver-friendly, with a drying room and a hose for that dirty kit. There's even a handy river for rope washing. As a bonus, Cascades Cave (one of the finest in the area) is a very short walk up the Glen (although it is temporarily inaccessible due to a landslide) and Marble Arch can be reached in about 30 mins following a very scenic walk up the Glen.

The centre is very modern and well-appointed, with a well-equipped kitchen, generous lounge and 4 dormitories with basic bunk beds. Indoors, it sleeps around 28 people. There were only 8 of us, so we rattled around a bit, having sole use of the place. Outside there is ample seating and parking, including hookups for at least 2 campervans and a very large camping area, complete with campfire area, should you want that sort of thing. Robin, the warden, could not have been more helpful.

If you're thinking of heading to the Fermanagh/Cavan area, I really do recommend looking at this accommodation option. I will certainly be back next time I'm over that way.

I first stayed at the scout hut in 99 and it was fabulous back then and has been revamped. The Agnahoo base up the hill was going great guns a few years ago with Sean, but I've not heards a lot about it recently.

I can vouch for Claddagh Glen but it is done as a block booking so needs a respectable number unless you don't mind splashing out!

To be fair, there were only 8 of us and we paid £15 pppn for a bunk. 2 slept in their vans for £10 pppn. Perhaps things have changed?

We were quoted 300 for the week that works out 15 pp but only if you fill the place. In the end that was the cost as we filled it. Camper van was the 10 charge.

How did it work out to £15 each then (even if that's for the whole week)?
£300 / 28 people = ~£10 per person (for a week? that's only £1.53 pppn which is definitely pretty cheap :) )

I don't know when @mrodoc stayed there or exactly what each person in his party paid per night. All I can do is repeat that there were only 8 of us and we felt we had very good value. We found Robin, the warden, very amenable. If you're going to the Fermanagh area, I would recommend that you contact him and get a quote for yourself 😀
