Forbidden Corner

I picked up a flier for 'Forbidden Corner. The Strangest Place in the World' in N Yorkshire. It says it is 'a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises'. Is it a fun day out for cavers?

I've not been in but have walked by the grounds on a nice walk from Middleham. The Google reviews look good. 'Be prepared to get lost, wet and confused':
Sounds like a typical caving trip? You aren't too far from Scrafton Pot if you prefer actual caving.

There is (or was, when I was there several years ago) a tunnel which gets smaller and smaller until you pop out. I (42" chest) just managed it. Lots of quirky rooms and passages. Plenty of opportunity to get wet, too. The whole site is great for kids, interesting and fun for adults, but really just that one caving adjacent attraction.

Forbidden Corner is a cracking day out, but other than the incredible shrinking culvert and underground 'labyrinth' (no more spoilers) its not an underground attraction per se. Its definitely quirky, fun, sometimes unsettling, but definitely worth a go if you seek something more stimulating than mindlessly trailing round an out-of-town shopping centre, breathlessly waiting for your next underground fix!

I went when I was about 12 and loved it.

I'd love to go back but it so far away from me.

For reference though, and to set expectations, it's a tourist attraction - and not that *cavey per se*. But it is quite fun.

It's great standing within sight of the exit and watching the panic as children pop out and their parents are stuck behind.

I'd say being a caver is a great advantage getting out of the end of that tunnel. Not that you actually need to, it's not on the main route round.

I've been several times, though not in the last few years, What I loved is that it's so well done, with attention to detail, not tacky in the least. I hope that's still true. It's worth more than one visit - you spot new details each time. The gardens are nice too, not just the usual range of "supermarket car park plants".
