Question for Bubba and Sam,

Is it possible to do a logical AND search on the board? I would expect that 'Match All Words' would be a logical AND search and 'Match Any Words' would be a logical OR. However, when I search for 'rat hole' using 'Match All Words' I get posts with just the word 'rat' and just the word 'hole' in them (32 pages of posts).

I'm aware that I can google rat hole site:ukcaving.com but would be nice to be able to use the ukcaving internal search in the same way.

No rush obviously fellas...

Jules.

Whilst I realise that I am neither Bubba or Sam, you can actually achieve what you want at the moment.

You can either say "rat hole", or if you want all posts with "rat hole" and "wooding", you can specify "rat hole" +wooding.

Yeah, the search should work as you describe, but it seems to just do everything as a "match any words" search. I'm hoping that the next major release of SMF will address this. I have altered the search weighting a little which may help but tbh i think the search is a bit flakey at best.

The easiest way to search for rat hole is to use: "rat hole"

I have read that it's probably better to use a search engine when searching medium/large forums, so:

rat hole site:ukcaving.com/board

in google is probably your best bet :)

I've not had much joy searching via google for Dr Jacksons - it got one hit.

"Dr Jacksons" on the UKc search hit 3 posts.

(ps - you need a space either side of the colon if you do a google search e.g. "Dr Jacksons"  :  ukcaving.com )

Plus they wont find anything if you have the /board bit on.

Only

Keyword : ukcaving.com

seems to work on google/yahoo
