Gaping Gill Winch meet August 2025

Sorry, Yes forgot to mention that the usual code words of “any chance of a brew” will hopefully result in some form of brown liquid.
I have purchased some biscuits specifically for visiting cavers, hopefully they will last the duration.
Biscuits bought for visiting cavers 🤣

Hi,
Will dihedral be available while the winch is running, or is that a silly question?
Hi Porgzilla

As per Skippy, Dihedral is only available to non CPC members OUTSIDE of public winching. ( Approximately 8.30am - 5.30pm, except Saturday which is 7.30am).
Evening visitors are more than welcome, planning a trip to finish about 8.30pm could have a nice “result” 😃

Thanks
Ian

Hi,
Thank you for the response and clarifying :)

Thank you for your hospitality yesterday, CPC, and for the use of your ropes. The use of the tent was particularly welcomed as the rain squall passed over! I would also like to pay tribute to the quality of the rigging. I've probably slid down Stream Passage Pot over fifty times, and I have never seen it rigged so well. Respect, @Ian P !

Happy to second Langcliffe's comments. Stream passage rigging was excellent.
Thanks to everyone at CPC for enabling a brilliant day's caving and hot tea and hospitality. Plus particular thanks to Ian P for acting as tour guide 😄

Thank You CPC!

(p.s. Skippy, yes they were Fox's)

Fantastic to see so many cavers yesterday, we had approximately 80 😱.

The biscuits and cakes were VERY much appreciated, thank you everyone.

The weather forecast looks really good for the rest of the week, still plenty of time to get trips in.

On behalf of the CPC

Many thanks to everybody from CPC for facilitating some excellent ULSA trips yesterday! It’s so much fun to be able to traverse the system, taking in how truly varied it is. My group enjoyed Marilyn to Stream via Mud Hall (well, ‘enjoyed’ in case of Mud Hensler’s), much helped by a bit of navigation advise from the surface team. And we really appreciated the patience when parts of the group were slightly late getting out, delaying well-earned pints until we were safely overground.

(Biscuits toll dutifully handed over before heading underground 😉)

Just to add, evening trips are more than welcome. We get some incredible sunsets up here.

We generally “shut up shop” by about 7.00pm but you are still welcome to use our ropes, please just make your own suitable call out arrangements.

Ian

The camp looks quiet this year......but dry :) Pouring down in Sydney but good snow where it counts :))......see you in October?

Hi all

We are starting to de rig entrances today.
Still chance for a quick evening trip tonight, or tomorrow daytime.

Everything should be out of the way by Saturday afternoon and the system back available to cavers for use with their own ropes.

Regards
Ian

Will Flood/Stream still be available this evening ?

The CPC Gaping Gill Winch Meet 2025 has now come to a close.
Thanks to the sterling efforts of club members, some favourable weather, and our new online booking system, it proved to be an incredibly successful event.

It was a real pleasure to welcome so many visiting cavers, the biscuits brought were VERY much appreciated . Thank you!

A special thanks to members of the YSS for kindly helping with the derigging of Marilyn.

Dates for your diary – 2026
  • Caver access: 10th–21st August 2026
(If possible, avoiding Saturday should help reduce queues.)

  • Tickets on sale: 1st July 2026

We are already looking at a few improvements for next year, including simplifying the booking-in system for visiting cavers.
I am also exploring the idea of an “early bird” uplift option, making use of the guaranteed empty chairs in the first 45 minutes of winching.

If anyone has any suggestions on how we can further improve the experience for visiting cavers, please don’t hesitate to drop me a message.

Regards
Ian
