Hello from Descent

Hello from Descent!

As you all probably know by now, Chris Howes and Judith Calford have retired from Descent magazine after 34 years. I think we can all agree that they did a great job and have earned a break.

My wife Carolina and I understand the importance of this publication to the caving world and are honoured to be able to keep up the tradition that Descent is 'written by cavers, produced by cavers and read by cavers - everywhere'.

Having read, and contributed to, Descent for many years - not as many years as some of you, I know - it is really quite a novel feeling to be editing it.

The publication date for issue 289 is the 10th of December, meaning subscribers should receive their copies during the week leading up to that date. It is also available from caving suppliers such as Inglesport and Starless River, or from our new website: https://www.descentmagazine.co.uk/

I realise that publication is usually the first week of the month, but I hope readers will understand that this extra week has allowed us to put together a high quality, unhurried publication. I'm sure that one day soon the editing/publishing process will become second nature to us and we'll return to publishing it in the first week of the month.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to our first issue - it has some cracking articles and photographs.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what editorial changes creep in over the coming issues. A change is as good as a rest they say ;)
