High Hill Cave + Fissure, Settle

Has anybody actually been to High Hill Cave near Settle. It's in Northern Caves and shown near the road from Settle to Kirkby Malham, at the top of the steep hill out of Settle. The 6 figure grid ref is in a field with no sign of the "clearly visisble entrance". We serached the hillside above (High Hill) with no joy. There is a small landslip feature, but this is well away from the grid ref, and contains no cave. Interestingly there is some sort of pumping station type building being constructed currently almost on top of the grid ref... To be honest the field where the grid ref is looks highly unpromising to my eyes.

I have been not to it! Like you I was intrigued by the possibilities suggested by the Northern Caves entry some years ago. I also trawled the hillside without success. It may be something that was noted by the BSA, in which case the relevant folder (with the Attermire stuff in) in the BCA library might help? It could have been filled in and rendered invisible by the farmer, as have Buckhaw Brow Rifts in the nearby Giggleswick area.

Looks like the mystery has now been solved by a mutual friend of ours (by personal mail).

I think we should leave it to the originator of the information to decide if he wants to post it publicly.

Maybe if the information is available in the public domain it will save other fruitless wandering over the land where it "should be" or even pestering the landowner for information (admittedly it might be one person every 10 years perhaps, but even so..)

Basically the cave is a couple of hundred metres from the grid ref listed in Northern Caves, and crucially at the top of a hill rather than the bottom as indicated! I've been sent photos and a Google Earth image which should put me straight on the entrance. I've asked if this info has been sent to the Northern Caves update authors; I agree it should be in the public domain and knowing the 'finder' well I'm sure it will be. There's no big secret; and it's a bit of a no hoper from the sound of it!
Ah well, on to the next 'possibility'! I will be taking a walk to the cave though; I'm determined to see it in the flesh!
Thanks to all concerned for the helpful information.

Well, 15 years later the information still hasn't appeared in the Northern Caves database.
Any chance of passing it on now DaveR?

Presumable, it's this feature:

Thanks Langcliffe but that's a few hundred metres from its grid ref in Northern Caves and is on Low High Hill rather than High Hill.

Rather than the Cave, perhaps that's the Fissure (which Northern Caves says is "in the vicinity"?

is this it?
Zoom in for the arrow.

I was there four days ago. There's not much to it, about four metres into the hillside.
There is lots of turned soil, like some little creature has a warren at the back of aomething

Funny...just been looking at that this last week as I often drive past, and wondering about walking up to it...does it seem more obvious this year

Funny, but I drive that way often and have been looking at it this week and wondering about walking up. Is it more obvious this year, or just the spring light?
