Ingleborough

Chilly up top today. Thanks to Deb Limbert for the photo 🙂

I'm in the flatlands of northern Lancashire but could see the distant alpine-looking Lakeland fells as I went to the mailbox. What a day to have to sit around waiting for workmen to show up ....

The view from the GSG hut in Elphin.
When I was at school (a while ago now 🤐), they used to book out the hut for first week of the Easter holidays, so I've stayed a week there several times.
The view from the hut and the little hill behind it is amazing. Fond memories of there as well as the obligatory walks up nearby-ish Suilven and Stac Pollaidh. As well as us kids loving the outdoors the teachers seemed to like it there too, AFAIK at least one has ashes scattered on the top of the hill (Cnoc Breac) Edit: meant the first bump\shoulder on the way up to Cnoc Breac, probably centre of your pic?

Thanks for posting that pic, given me a lot of reminiscing

I wonder if anyone was around to see that happen?
I very much doubt it.
From what I can gather, this, along with other slips surrounding the Chapel le Dale area, are "no more recent than immediately after the ice retreated because there are no signs of subsequent disturbance of the slumped material by later slope failure". (Johnson D, Ingleborough - Landscape and History; 2nd edition, 2020, pp 85-86. Carnegie Publishing Ltd.)
For those seeking more information, there is further discussion focusing as to the influence of periglacial, solifluction and gelifluction in the formation of these slumps.

If there was anyone around to witness this slump, they are undoubtedly buried somewhere beneath - presumably now going by the name of Peat. ;)

I can't see the original Ingleborough pictures either, but the moon picture is open!

Assumed it was my lack of knowledge or something I hadn't opened though!
