Iran 1977 Expedition

At the last MCRA meeting i was given a collection of slides and prints from Chris Hannam who passed away. I never leave a meeting empty handed which is great but here was a sizeable amount to go through. There are prints, 35mm slides and medium format negatives so maybe not all taken by Chris.
Its unfortunately not unusual to have photos donated to MCRA after someone has passed away. I did not know Chris but theres a very personal connection you make when viewing collections like these.
Here are a selection from the Iran 1997 trip and all i know about that is a group of Mendip cavers left from Priddy in a single decker bus and Dr Peter Glanvill went along to offer his medical services and later wrote a book about it.

There are no details with the images but they show a 'journey' and its part of what MCRA do in recording and making material like this available.
Hope its of interest.
Paul.

As Tony Oldham used to say "There is a book.". Quite a few copies still available but when they are gone they are gone. 200 printed and nearly half gone. People say it is a good read.

I wonder what the locals thought about Westerners walking around shirtless and in shorts? When I was in eastern Turkey in the eighties it was very clear wearing shorts wasn't the done thing.

How's this for a spooky co-incidence? The last web search I did, a couple of minutes ago, was looking for photo gallery software.

Yes it is a good read. Great perception how expedition caving was done in the 1970's . The crappy old bus. Up the hills on donkeys . No GPS. PG at the very beginning of his medical career. Trials and tribulations. A classic really.

I think I am turning into Tony Oldham but here goes. It is another plug for the book taking advantage of Iran being in the news. Obtainable from me if you DM me.
