Ken Pearce - obituary in the Clapham village newsletter

I see from the attachment that
He moved on to teach Outdoor Pursuits in North Wales and during this time he received a commendation for his role in a mine rescue.

Can anyone provide details about this incident?

Yes Ian; the current editor has produced continuously excellent Newsletters for a long time. He'll appreciate your words as he's a member of this forum.

There may be some forum users who don't realise that this is a different Ken Pearce from the one most of you will be familiar with, at least in name. The other Ken Pearce (of Berger etc fame) passed away over 30 years ago, before I came to know the Clapham Ken Pearce.

Not long after Berger Ken died the phone rang and the voice at the other end said "This is Ken Pearce". My heart missed a beat! That was my first contact with the Clapham Ken Pearce and we went on to become friends. He was a really good bloke and a lot of us will miss him.
