Laddering Dolly Tubs

I have a 10m electron ladder and have a vague recollection of using it to ladder Dolly Tubs. But my researches indicated that I would need 14m of ladder.

Can anybody clarify please?

Chris.

NC 2 says: Ladder 14m Belay 3m Lifeline 18m for Dolly Tubs pitch (in Lower Long Churn Cave).

There is the alternative split pitch. This is closer to Alum Pot from a shelf on the right of the dolly tubs. Bolts 14-21 on the CNCC topo. It lands on a platform and traverse ledges half way. Plenty of bolts. A 10m ladder will do each bit I would have thought, but you'll need someone on SRT or do something smart with the ropes to pull-up and re-use the ladder. It would be much easier with a single ~15m ladder

Photo below shows us taking a novice the split pitch way. SRT with a safety rope.

14m ladder is “required” for DT.

Other options if at least one caver is on SRT.

Use the split pitch at the side of DT as detailed by Steve above.

Alternatively: Attach a 10m rope to the ladder and put through a pulley jammer. When the caver reaches the top of the ladder let them have a “rest” sitting on the lifeline whilst you pull the ladder up to the top.
They can then continue their ascent.

I have done both these options in the past.
