:D I'v got a hankering to do GB with a mate, we been doing swildons1 and things. Everyone is busy so wondered if anyone else was going in on Sunday we could join you or if you fancyed GB yourself and needed a couple of people to make it safe.

I'm with ACG so got the CCC permit and insurence, my friend is thinking about joining and best way is to show em something impressive I thought.

Any takers. I'v been done GB once before down to the main chamber, past the bridge and did a loop round to the right, about year and a half ago.

The last CSCC meeting was informed that the practise rescue has been cancelled.

You've written that as though you need to belong to a club to get access to GB. Is that what you meant? Its not so.

Charterhouse does not require you to be insured. They recommend it, but don't require it. Also you might want your buddies to be insured so that you, or your family, have some recompense if they drop a rock on your head. But that is your own personal choice.

You don't need to belong to a club to get a permit. The ACG should be able to issue a temporary permit to non-members. If not come to the Wessex and we'll issue you one. Although you can tell him, as an incentive, that as a club member he'll get an annual permit and thus be able to do GB every weekend for nowt.

GB's great, but far to spacious too give a proper sense of Mendip caving. :)

 Big SHOCK, insurence not required, member of club not required? I am actually gobsmacked.
So how do I get in then? I remember it being a locked door.

Ask for a key!

ACG has one, as do all the Charterhouse Clubs

In no particular order I believe they are:

Wessex, :D :D :D
Axbridge,
UBSS,
SBSS,
Shepton,
Cerberus,
MNRC,
MCG,
BEC.

I think I am missing one but can't think who it is.

I spect you could ask Graham for a key as well if you didn't wish to approach the Clubs. :D

Oh  well as time is running short I need to pick which is logistically easiest. I'm in Box for 6 hrs Sat so the only time I have is Sat evening or Sunday morning before going in and I know the people I'v already asked are already booked on digs etc. Graham or someone can I pickup a key?

Bit of a fronteer for me this...

No problem.
however there will be a key fee - £1
and you will be asked for a deposit - £10

also bring your permit or somebody will try and sell you one.
Your guest will need a permit - 14 day permits are available from the Wessex - 50p each

It's all very mercenary this cave access stuff. :(

The one you missed was the Toby Caving Club.

DP, the reason we do not insist on insurance for visitors is that we (the Charterhouse Caving Company Ltd, the leasholders) are covered for anything that we do, but if you screw up we'll cheerfully sue.

:D thanks
I'll find some money in the boot or something for the key etc.

Just to put peoples minds at rest myself and joker001 have done, church of the goats, swildons1, giants, p8, few other caves, lots of mines. We dont use carbide, have been known to dangle down pitches on bits of rope, I'v done GB once before. We'll look after it.

DP - ACG have two GB keys - had you contacted the keyholder(s) in advance you could have collected one at the last meeting for free. Details, if you can't remember who the club keyholders are, are in your ACG handbook. :)

Perhaps Hughie could bring all they keys and the entire ACG Library to the ACG meetings just in case any body wishes to borrow a key or book!

No just ring or e-mail either of the two key holders and they will arrange for you to pick the key up.
