In a few weeks time i will be mapping the geology around and to the south of stump cross caverns as part of my disertation. im also hoping to cary out work inside stump cross itself as well and i was wondering if anyone A. happend to know if there was a survex (or other digitised) version of the stump cross caverns survey i might be able to use if not does anyone know who surveyed the cave and if theyve still got the survey data and could posibly let me have a photocopy of it and ill have a crack at digitising it.
secoundly does anyone know of any work on the geology of the cave that has previosly been caried out iv already had a bit of a root through the ULSA library and found a few bits and bobs mostly on drips and dead woolverines but if anyone knows of any other littriture of the top of there heads then that would be invaluable
many thanks

Ian - can probably help but V busy as I type. Just PM me to remind me and we can discuss.

The Craven issued a nice shiny full colour survey to all of our members last year
out of interest was it a new survey possibly done by metric measurments?? (can but hope!!)

Also if anyone else comes looking for info on the geology of the cave theres a realy good article in the London university caving clubs journal 3 (june 1967) geology of mongo gill - stump cross caverns pp 3-11

It is a fairly newly drawn survey but I believe based on previous survey work. I wasn't involved in its production so I am sure there are other members of the Craven who will know a lot more about it than I do.

You're in SUSS aren't you? SUSS often stays at the NPC, that right?

If you are intending to be there let me know and I can get a few things together to show you(including that survey) which I think you'll find useful. (If it's midweek you could even make use of the photocopying facility in Clapham if there is anything you want a copy of.) If you REALLY want I might be able to speak to someone about the possibility of getting you an electronic copy of that big new colour survey.

There's a separate bit of research going on in that area right now about certain aspects of the mining history, which might turn up a few useful things for your work as well.

Send me a PM to remind me.
