• Help us work out the future of the Inglesport Café

We've been trading since 1977 and next year will be our 50th anniversary.

The café has been part of that for a long time, running quietly in the background for years, and we don't think it always gets the credit it deserves as a genuine community hub. But we need to be straight with you: the café is under real pressure, and we’re not sure of the best path forward.....

Los Tayos cavers

In 'Los Tayos Gold', Stan Hall relates that in October 1999 he 'returned to Ecuador with two British cavers.' This was after the famous 1976 Los Tayos Expedition. Although Hall is usually scrupulous in naming the people who accompanied him on his exploits in Ecuador, the two cavers are not named. Is this because they wanted to remain anonymous? Whatever the reason, after so much time has passed, are they now prepared to reveal themselves?

Seems that the cave was officially closed at that time, but his daughter has been there more recently:

Report on original expedition:

Seems to be some confusion about Neil Armstrong too:

The Neil Armstrong story is true. Dave Checkley was on the same expedition, and he had a tale that when skimming the treetops in a decrepit military helicopter to the cave, he asked Armstrong about the various red warning lights on the dashboard. "Don't worry about those", replied Armstrong, "but if that green one goes out, jump!".

Yes, most modern blogs (etc) do agree on that (YRC give him an extended mention), just this one seems somewhat garbled.

Any account using Erich von Daniken can be automatically classified under 'twaddle'.
